We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day for our trip to the park, and the classes were as close to perfect as you could have hoped. Tons of smiles all around. Everyone got into the spirit of the games we played and the activities we participated in. Here are some of the class' highlights...
Best things about today...
Ethan -watching snowshoers fall down like dominoew in a line
Kasper - stealing Ray's flag
Jacob - everything...it was awesome!
Ben L. -Cohen and I tripping on each other
Kenny - shoeshoe sprinting
Tyler - going off trail to break my own path, and leading everyone into disaster!
Funniest memories from today...
Miranda - Flag tag and falling in the deep snow
Katey - Falling in the snow
Ben V. - trying to grab Ray's flag, and tripping over my own falling belt
Leah - falling in the snow all the way up to my waist, falling face first while trying to help Coralie.
Jamie - ancient student burial ground marker?, and the pathetic defense moves during flag tag that everyone used
Most Interesting things we learned today...
Taylor - learning about how bark beetles lay eggs under the bark and the patterns that different ones grow in: straight line, clump that grows into a star, zig zag, two sided comb
Ben V. - learning about insects who lay eggs in Goldenrod stems, that grow into 'galls' and how they metamorphasize into adults in those ball shaped growths
Jacob - that there are a lot of bugs alive in the winter, even though you don't see them
Marin - Gypsy Moths lay eggs in a clump on the sides of trees, covered in silk from their bodies, and they survive over the winter. The silk is there to protect them from predators who don't like eating that silk.
Anna - learning that adult insects die just after reaching maturity
Kenny - learning that William Lyon Mackenzie King had a cottage in the Gatineaus, and learning that Pileated Woodpeckers peck giant holes through trees looking for ants, who live in adult form there in the winter.
