Biography Check-In

May 7th is very close at hand, and though many students have been updating me regularly with accounts of how much typing they have been doing at home, I know that several need a bit of encouragement in the coming days.  All students have had around 10 hours of in class time to write out rough drafts of their chapters.  Prior to this we also worked on several other components for the project.  Now students MUST be working on typing up their good copies of their chapters.  Parents need to assist in the reviewing of written work, and are welcome to help out with typing and formatting.

On May 7th, all students must submit their biography folders with rough drafts of 3-4 chapters, and the rough drafts of the extra pages such as Copyright page, About the Author, Back page, etc. as they will be assessed as part of the writing mark for this term.  They also must submit the following mandatory components, and any optional components, typed up, one sided, on 8 1/2 x 11 (standard) letter paper.  The biography must be paper-clipped (not stapled or hole punched) together in the order in which you wish it to be bound.  Submissions must be made on paper, not via the internet.

No printing will be done at school in colour, and if black and white prints are needed, they must be ready for printing the day before submission so that students can take recess time and print out their work.

Mandatory Components
    Cover Page
    Title Page
    Copyright Page
    Author’s Acknowledgements
    Table of Contents
5-10 Chapters (8 is our goal)
    About the Author
    Back Cover
***Photos (possibly throughout, but maybe just a photo spread page)

Optional (Components that we discussed in class, and we left up to the individual to develop and include)
    Introduction
    Family Tree
    Timeline
    Fun Facts
    Glossary
    Index

ps.  here are links to two great videos we used today in Math and in Journal writing.  In math we calculated how many days we would likely live in our lives (based on some stats Can data they looked through and some personal reflection questions).  Then we did some reflective journal writing on our trip to Crystal Bay, and we connected our experiences with the story of Keith in the video.

Here is the final design for our School of Rock 9 show, set for June 13th.  Put that date on your calendars!
