Rolling Right Along

The weeks ahead are going to really start to roll into one another, with events like our MacSkimming trip (this Thursday - nine forms and fees still have not been returned), Track and Field (June 11th), School of Rock (June 13 and 14th), and a 'soon to be announced' Bike Trip 2 (June 19th).  Keep your eyes open for forms and notices coming home, and please let us know if you are able to help out in any way.
Right now in the class ...
We have an ongoing mural project, thanks to the assistance of David and Michelle Fortier, where our class is transforming the main lobby of the school with a beautiful graffitti based design that will feature a rotation of student artwork for years to come in frames that we are creating.
As part of our Growing up Organic initiative our students have planted a variety of seeds in the outside garden, and have a number of types of squash sprouting in our room rignt now.  We will be putting the squash into the ground in a few weeks.
The caterpillars we brought into the classroom have entered the pupae/chrysalis stage, so we will be hanging them in our butterfly net tomorrow, and waiting for them to come out so that we can release them in the coming week.
Tuesday we will be placing our eggs, including four very special 'green chicken eggs' into our incubator.  It arrived Monday, and we have it up to the proper temperature and humidity already, so we are just waiting on the timing so that we can all be present for he hatching starting in 21 days or so.  We will be looking at the egg as part of our exploration of living things in science.
I put the call out two weeks back to students, and now I am calling on parents to send in old, no longer used clothing for us to re-imagine as part of Churchill's 12th Recycled Fashion Show.  This is always a hit with the students, as we take apart old clothing, and re-design it into new ideas and fashions/accessories.  If we can collect enough materials in the coming week, I would like to start our designing next week.  I have one former parent who has volunteered to come in for an hour or so during class, with a sewing machine, to help students with some stitching.  Most of our work is done by hand, but we can really use some more sewing machine help if it is available.  If you can come in to sew, even without a machine, please let me know, so I can schedule our design days around your availability.  Once the designs are finished we will set a date for our fashion show (typically a lunch break, outside, on the deck...likely after School of Rock).

Keep your eyes open for upcoming news.  I need all MacSkimming forms in ASAP.  As of today we have only one person volunteering to come along on this trip.  We will need at least two more to make the trip possible, so please let me know if you can come along.
Regards, Ray Kalynuk
