Overnight Success!
As I am sure everyone has heard by now, our year end overnight trip to Macskimming was an overwhelming success. The measure of success for me was seeing almost perfect attendance at school on Friday in class. You could see what a great bonding experience it was for everyone through their excitement to come to school and talk all about it again. It would be tough to get a consensus as to what the highlight of the trip was. Some would say that getting to use the weather instruments in the field was cool, others would definitely say that fishing around in the ephemeral pond for tadpoles, larvae, and frogs was the best part, and yet some probably found trying to survive in the wild as part of the predator/prey activity to be the biggest thrill. Whether it was netting insects in the field, watching the stars on a night walk, sleeping in the dorms, playing ultimate frisbee, playing manhunt, the kid of a thousand faces, jokes at the campfire, making smores, the sing a-long at the fire, or counting mosquito bites, everyone had a favourite part of the trip, and we all took away memories that will hopefully last for a lifetime. I have to admit that I felt pretty proud to hear our instructor (Juwain) and many of the parent volunteers comment on many occasions about how well the class got along, how positive they were about most things, and how well behaved they were in general. They definitely represented the school, our class, and themselves very well. And on top of all that I think they had a blast. Great job everyone, and a million thanks to all of the volunteers who made it possible (both at home and at Macskimming)
