Dear Room 308 Families,
This Friday, we will be having a special Harvest Celebration meal with out Reading Buddies (Michele White’s pm kinder class). This celebration is timed to reinforce the messages of Thanksgiving, as it is an opportunity to focus on the importance of generosity, sharing, appreciating our good fortunes, and enjoying the company of friends.
Over the course of the week we will read different versions of the classic tale Stone soup from various cultures. The theme of gratitude and thanks will be reflected in our writing this week. To compliment this theme we will be collecting canned or dry goods with the kinder classes for donation to the Ottawa Food Bank. If you could send an item in before Friday we can add it to our collection.
To reinforce this theme of community and sharing everyone is asked to bring in a pre cut, diced, chopped, or sliced vegetable of any type that can be added to our “stone soup” pot. We will make our soup with whatever we put in the pot, and Michele and I will provide the stone! We will collect these veggies on Wednesday and Thursday to keep until Friday due to the overnight.
Volunteers are needed Friday to help get our pot of soup cooking by around eleven thirty or twelve, and to help serve the soup later in the day. If you are able to help please let me or Cheryl know as soon as possible. This is always a memorable activity which helps make our Reading Buddy program so special, and helps to reinforce the themes of this season.
Thanks for your support.
Regards, Ray

Fabulous event, Michele: the room looked so inviting and harvesty. Thanks to everyone who helped out by sending in a soup item, stirring the pot, serving and cleaning up. The kids had a blast. The food basket was also overflowing, such an amazing amount of generosity!! The kids sure enjoyed this.
