This sure was a whirlwind of a week! Student led conferences, sing-a-longs every day, a holiday celebration, and of course the big play.
The play went off like clockwork. The students did themselves proud. Every single one of them were standouts from the Screaming Latke, to the backstage crew who made the sets change so smoothly no one even noticed them onstage. The responses from other classes, parents (even of other students from other classes), and the staff were overwhelming. Everyone loved it, and thought the class was brilliant. I think they are right. It really made me proud of the whole bunch. We put it all together in two weeks basically, and I a don't think it would have been possible without a group of students who could work together as well, and act as a team, like our class. It was a privilege to be a part of it. We have the whole thing on video, and it is pretty good quality, so we will show it for the families later in the year on our "movie night".
During the sing a longs this week a good number of our class led the whole school in sing a longs for a few songs they know from activities we have done in class. I personally think that the whole bunch of them are becoming addicted to the spotlight, but it is amazing to see how they have grown in confidence through the sharings we have run, and participated in, the play, etc.
Hannukah is a topic you could ask any of the students in our class about and after this week, they would be able to answer almost all the questions. Between the play, and the great presentation by Isaac F. and his dad Max, the class are basically experts on the holiday. We had a real hannukah celebration following the play, with fresh cooked latkes, dreidels for everyone, and chocolate gelt all around. It was educational, fun, and delicious for all.
Thanks to all of you who made it in for student leds. We talked about it and the students seemed to enjoy having the opportunities to show you all around. For those who couldn't fit it in this week we can arrange for other options in the new year, just get in touch once we get back in January.
Thanks also to everyone for the holiday wishes they sent in. I hope that you all have a great, and well deserved, winter break with your families. There was a lot of excitement about holiday plans amongst the class this week. It sounds like there are a lot of trips to see family planned, and more than a few ski trips. It will be great to hear all about the fun when we get back in the new year.
Take care, Ray
