The 5/6 students from room 308 and 310 were a wonderful bunch to spend the day with at the National Gallery and Museum of Civilization today. I heard some great questions being asked, and saw even more being answered. It was a long, but event filled day. We had guided tours of the Grand Hall and the Canada Hall at the Civ museum, and we did a search for symbolism at the National Gallery. Lunch outside for a trip in early March sounds unbeleivable, but in the sun it was really quite a treat! They did Churchill proud with their behaviour overall.
Some things you might want to ask your child could be...
1. What European fashion spurred the exploration of Western Canada by settlers?
2. How heavy is too heavy to be a Voyageur?
3. Give them a $20 bill and ask them to tell you about the sculpture on the back of it (and then remember to ask for it back).
4. Who is that statue supposed to be behind the National Gallery, and what is that thing he is holding used for?
5. What is the monument across the street from the National Gallery, and what is significant about the statues on it?
On another note, with all the hoopla of the week I have not asked if there are any potential "froggie sitters" for the March Break. Is anyone able to drop by tomorrow during the day and take Juliet, Zeus, and Misty home for a few days? Please email me and let me know if you can.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy March break. The class decided as a group to make the biography project due on the Wednesday after the break. I have five in already. I don't want them working too much on the break, so if they want to give it to me tomorrow that is fine. Either way there is lots of time still for those who are not totally done.
Take care, Ray
