Remembrance Day

Our Remembrance Day ceremony was a very well received event today. I have heard a lot of lovely comments about the students and the ceremony, and it is a Testament to both the children, and the teachers who guide them every day. J.F. Fauteaux, the leader of the Nepean Junior Concert Band, said that he always loves coming to play at this ceremony because the students are so respectful of the occasion, and it sets a good example for his High School students. I think that says a lot.

For those of your who could not attend, our class was responsible for running the event. They did all of the introductions and explanations for the sharing, and they did it in a very organized and respectful manner.

Our class read the words of the song John Brown, by Bob Dylan, and acted out the scenes in the 'story' to accompany it. We had some great feedback on it, and the class had a lot to talk about during our class meeting afterwards. It seems that they really like being in the spotlight.

The School of Rock performance really went over well. The majority of the class is in the choir, and they really rose to the occasion. Megan, our principal (who's husband just returned from time spent in Afghanistan with the armed forces) actually got teary talking about it all afterwards. Her husband and family were here this morning for the ceremony and they all really appreciated how well done it was. Our whole class deserves a little pat on the back for their roles in the event.

The trip to the cenotaph this afternoon was also a success. The group was respectful, and watchful throughout the ceremony. This is the sixth year I have taken a class down, and the event has grown incredibly, but we always have people comment on how nice it is to see us there. We were the only school at the event, but there was a great turnout from the community. Students from our school (including Aaron from our class) laid a wreath on behalf of the students of Canada.

What a great day!
