We have a few big projects on the go right now that you are likely aware of. The Global Letter Project is almost finished and ready to unveil. We hope to get the whole thing posted on the wall outside our room in the coming days.
As our focus has shifted from Black History and civil rights, to issues of social justice, we are also writing about what issues we would want to change if we had a chance. We will be finishing our 'take a stand' statements by the end of the week.
Today the students in our class, Tiiu's, and Andrew's classes all were introduced to our grandparent biograpy project. A pink sheet, and a planning checklist went home with dates listed on both for the major milestones of the project. The first step is for students to choose the topic of their biography by Thursday of this week. We are brainstorming the major features of this biography, and a list of questions to ask our grandparent. The goal of this project is to have the students conduct an interview, and write their biographies using primary source information. Parents are encouraged to look carefully at the information on the pink sheet. It must be returned to class by Thursday with the topic choice, and will be sent backhome by the end of the week, with a folder, and a list of questions that we compile as a group. The interviews are to be finished by March 25th. We will start the writing process IN CLASS. This is a two month long project, which will be due on May 6th in class. We will be going through it step by step. More information will be coming in the days ahead so stay tuned.
