April Showers

This week calls for a lot of rain, so the office would like us to remind everyone that dressing for the weather is a must.  Warm cloths, rain gear, and proper indoor and outdoor footwear is needed.  Many in our class are struggling with appropriate footwear for indoors, particularly when it comes to time in the gym.  Shoes that can be tied up, with non marking soles, and that they can run in.  That is the basic requirement.  Middle school will require a change of gym clothes in addition to gym shoes, so reminding your children to do this in grade 6 will help them next year.
Our foray into poetry is paying off big time with fantastic Rap songs being written by the students in the class right now.  We should be finishing them off in the coming days, opening the door for our poetry slam/song rewrite and rap performances starting later this week.  It should be exciting for the performers and the audience.
This is the last reminder that song rewrites are way over due, but I will still accept them up until the end of the week.
All students also must have a poem selected, by a published author, to share with the class.
Our class has been cooperatively writing 28 stories that take place on 'Mystery Island' and they went home this past weekend as homework.  They must now be completed outside of class time, as we have spent a considerable amount of tiem getting them done at school.
In math, our bedroom makeovers were just smashing!  We had some wonderfully unique designs, and everyone put in a great effort overall.  We will continue to explore surface area and volume in the coming weeks.
Be on the lookout for permission forms coming home this week.
