Dear Room 308 Families:

The month of June has well begun and it is time to start marking important dates off on our calendars. Over the last two weeks of this school year important things will be happening both in, and out of the classroom, and we hope to have everyone involved as much as possible.

Family Picnic Thanks to our fabulous parent volunteers for whipping out the phone tree and getting the word out about the picnic last Monday evening. Between the phone calls and the notes home it seems like everyone got the word. I really regret not being there for the festivities, but in my defense I was there for over forty minutes of rainshowers and thunder before I decide that no one was going to come on account of the weather. Anyhow it was good to hear that so many showed up after the rain, and that fun was had by all. We will not be rescheduling it, but instead will make our “Wednesday Night at Room 308” (see below) a bit of an open house/sharing of treats for anyone wishing to bring snacks to go with the evening’s entertainment. Thanks to Sonia for the attached photo from the evening.

School of Rock III – Rock the Ages Can you believe that what started as a way to drum up interest (DRUM up interest, get it?) in the Junior choir, is still going. After two hugely successful rock concerts and a spectacular Holiday show the Churchill School of Rock is ready to once again bring down the house! This Friday afternoon (June 13th) the whole school will be walking over to Nepean H.S. auditorium for the show, which starts at 12:30. Our class will be leaving school at 11:30 as almost all of our students are in the show and we will need time to prepare. If your child’s green permission form has not been returned please do so ASAP. The show must go on, and we would hate to leave anyone behind. The evening show starts at 7:00pm sharp. The choir members are encouraged to be at the auditorium by 6:30 at the latest. This year’s show is sure to rock, so audience members should come early to get the best seats. Make sure you check out the great artwork our class created for the show.
(FYI -the sound is the best in the balcony, but the views are better near the front)

Room 308's “Wednesday Night at the Movies” We have had such a positive response from this event in the past few years that we want to keep the tradition alive. All families are invited to drop in on the evening of Wednesday June 17th for our class open house and video sharing. It is impossible to be in the school to see what goes on every day, so here is our chance to show you a bit of what we have been up to this year. We have a wide variety of computer based projects, video slideshows, and video footage to share with everything from photos of our field trips, to footage of our Blues in the Schools performance, to animations, and of course full coverage of the recycled fashion show. So come on in for some popcorn and good times. The show starts at six thirty, but come any time after six to reserve seats and take a look around.

Anna MacDonald Chalk Festival Our class is helping to organize our second annual afternoon of music and art on June 16th. Last year’s chalk festival was such a success that we knew that we just had to do it again, and as part of a tribute to the memory of Anna MacDonald we have re-named the event “The Anna MacDonald Chalk Festival”. The entire school will be out on the playground engaged in chalk art. We have themes and teams, now all we need are sun and some helping hands to lend encouragement and possibly inspiration to our young artists. We are looking for sidewalk chalk, volunteers, artists (to guide some creativity or just to share your artistic talents in chalk art of your own), and anyone interested in performing on our outdoor stage. If you know anyone willing to entertain us during this event please get in touch with Ray as soon as possible, or just show up. The event will run in the afternoon, weather permitting.

Honouring our 6’s Grade six parents are invited to the honouring ceremony (graduation/school leaving) on the morning of Monday June 23rd. The ceremony will run for the entire morning, and parents are encouraged to get there early to find a good seat (8:00 am).
Following the honouring ceremony all grade 5 and 6 students will be walking over to Dovercourt Park for our annual "pizza in the park" lunch and afternoon of activities. Parents are encouraged to attend, and participate. We are always looking for a few to help with Ultimate frisbee, Soccer, and crafts. Those willing to donate snacks to the event are asked to bring them to the park after 11:30 am, or to drop them off at the school in the morning and we will carry them over.
Invitations to the morning ceremony, field trip forms for the afternoon events, and pizza order forms will be coming home in the next few days

Warmest Regards, Ray and the students of Room 308
