There is a lot on the go in the coming weeks. With School of Rock behind us we are looking forward to our big overnight. The forms have all gone home, and need to be back in by this
Wednesday so that we can confirm numbers and go ahead with the final planning stages. Volunteers will be calling soon to make arrangements for food donations. This trip is always one of the most memorable experiences of the year. We have already held one very successful ice cream day fundraiser, and there will probably be at least one more by the end of the year.
Over the coming weeks we will be preparing for our annual "Recycled Fashion Show". This is always a popular event, and great learning opportunity for the class. In effect what the students do is take old clothes that are no longer being used and re-design them into new designs. The culmination is a quick trip down our "runway" in a fashion show of recycled designs for the school. In order to make this work we are looking for donations of old, no longer used clothing. We also are in need of needles and thread (black, blue or white primarily) and helping hands who would be available for the occasional morning (10:30 - 12:10) to thread needles, and tie knots. Send in any donations, or contact me this week if you are able to.
Our poetry unit is wrapping up, and students will be asked to polish up and hand in their finished portfolios by this Friday.
The Cube project is due the Monday before our overnight trip. Students received the outline and we discussed the project last week. Grade 6's are researching five different animals, and Grade 5's are researching five body systems. The cubes should be completed at home, but will be assembled at school so we can build our mobiles together in class.
