Things are ramping up in room 308 for our little holiday presentation on Wednesday, December 16th. (approx 8:30 am) We are adapting a story by Lemony Sniket (the author of "A Series of Unfortunate Events") called "The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming." It is not a traditional holiday story by any means, but one that will be fun for everyone who is involved. We are hard at work with sets, and props (we need large sheets of cardboard Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday to build some of the costumes - if you have any lying around from a large appliance we would love to have it), and this week we will be rehearsing heavily. This is only a fifteen minute production or so, but it will be a great experience for the class. Anyone who is able to make it is invited to join, and I am looking for a volunteer who can film the show for us so the students can see it later, and so parents who can't make it will be able to see how it went. (we have a "movie night" in June where we usually share videos and slideshows from the year) Let Ray know if you are able to help with some of the prep for the play in the coming week.
Some of you will have received letters from your children inviting you to attend a student led conference on December 15th or 16th. There are a dozen or so who did not have enough time to finish their letters yesterday, so they will be bringing you one on Monday. There is a schedule of times attached. Please fill out your first, second, and third choices, and return them with the bottom of the letter A.S.A.P. so that Ray can confirm times for you. This will be your child's chance to share their experiences from the year so far. If you would like to speak with Ray about specific concerns separate arrangements can be made for a meeting, just let him know. The dates and times available are:
Tuesday, December 15
7:20 to 7:50 am
2:40 to 3:10 pm
3:15 to 3:45 pm
3:50 to 4:20 pm
4:25 to 4:55 pm
5:00 to 5:30 pm
Wednesday, December 16
2:40 to 3:10 pm
3:15 to 3:45 pm
3:50 to 4:20 pm
4:25 to 4:55 pm
5:00 to 5:30 pm
6:30 to 7:00 pm
7:00 to 7:30 pm
7:30 to 8:00 pm
We hope to see you all there. If there is not a time available that will suit you let Ray know and arrangements can be made for an alternative.
On separate topic, in a feat of incredible teamwork, math skills, problem solving, and organizations, the students of Room 308 just finished two days of tallying sub orders for the school. This order was for the months of December, January, February, and March. Just to give you and idea of what this entails, for each order information must be compiled on a chart with the name, type of sub, and the amount of money included with the order. This is then tallied for the class, forwarded to another chart for that order, and the forms are then organized. Ask any parent who has come in to help out, it is incredibly complicated. In two sessions, over two days, our class sorted this data for over a thousand sub orders! They were fantastic. So when tax time comes you may want to ask them to help out.....
