Wow, my cup truly runneth over...I cannot beleive what a fantastic effort everyone put into the shower today. A few hints were slipped my way of course, but I had no idea that parents would be there, and that quilt that the class made....it really touched me. Thinking about it now, and the time/care that went into making all the pieces of the quilt (not to mention the time to sew it all together...Cheryl!) it is really touching. I know that Arlo will make use of it, but it is me and Jenny who will appreciate it the most.
I have said it many times before, but it is at times like these when I really feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful community. It is a treat to be involved with such caring and considerate people. The students in the class represent you all so very well. Jenny was hugged dozens of times today, and made to feel really at home, and I appreciate that so much.
Thank you to everyone who made it in for the shower. It was unexpected to see you all there, but very much appreciated. I was totally overwhelmed with it all, but, as Rory put it, this is just the prelude to the next 20 years of being overwhelmed with parenthood.
Thank you as well to everyone who has sent in gifts over the past few weeks. The gifts of books, clothes, stuffed animals, toys, and canoe paddles have all been so very thoughtful. We have put many of them to use already. I am looking forward to a long summer of reading to the little guy on the porch.
It is amazing to see how little Arlo has influenced the class. I get stories all the time from parents who tell me they are getting regular updates when he visits, or about how "tired" I am looking from day to day (report cards were the reason for some of it...really!). I am happy to have been able to share some of this experience with them.
So...before I ramble more, I just want to let you all know that your efforts, thoughts, and kind wishes have helped to make a fantastic time in our lives even brighter. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Jenny and I will never forget it, and we will be sure to tell Arlo all about it in the coming years (he's spent a bunch of time at school already, perhaps he can get a few days credit towards JK). Thanks once more,
Ray, Jenny, and Arlo James Earl Kalynuk
