Two Weeks Left!

I have said it many times this year, but now it seems more pertinent than ever before...Time really Flies! I can't believe that there is only two weeks left. The past two and a half weeks have been a blur for me personally. Arlo has been just a wonderful treat for Jenny and I. Despite the late nights, and lack of sleep, Jenny has had a permanent smile ever since she set eyes on the little guy, and I have had hard times going to work each day, but have enjoyed returning home more than ever before!
Even with the adventure of fatherhood, things have gone on at Churchill, and we are ramped up for the two busiest weeks of the year. Grade sixes took home invitations for the June 21st honouring ceremony. It will take place in the gym, starting at 8:20 am or so. There were permission forms sent home today as well for all fives and sixes for the afternoon event, which is a picnic, with option of ordering pizza, to take place at Dovercourt in the park. We will spend that afternoon (the ceremony in the morning will take approximately two hours, with a reception and photo period to follow). We need a few grade five or six parents to come along to the park on the walk, or to meet us there. Any donations of food or treats for the afternoon would be dropped off at the park (to save us carrying it) and really appreciated by the students no doubt. In case of rain we will stay at the school and have activities on the third floor and in the library.
This coming Wednesday morning our class will be organizing the fourth annual Churchill Chalk Festival. We were inspired to organize the first one by the annual event in Gatineau. Check that one out on line, and come out to take part in ours on Wednesday. We will be kicking things off at 8:20 am, and it will run until 10:00.
We wanted to present our fashion show today or Friday, but the weather is not cooperating, so the plan, right now, is to hold this popular event during the afternoon recess on Monday. We will get ourselves organized outside from 12:00 to 12:30, and will start the show once all the students come out at 12:30. Feel free to come along and check it out, but we will be recording it for those who can not make it.
Report cards will go home on the last Thursday of the year. Our last day of school is Friday, June 25th. If your child will not be at school during those last days please let Ray know so that the class can plan ahead (we would like to know when our last full day together is).
Finally, the big wrap up open house for our class will be this coming Thursday evening. "Thursday Night at the Movies" will be an evening of sharing, and reflection for all the families of Room 308. Visitors are welcome to arrive earlier to have one last look around, but the show will start at 6:45 'officially.' We will be sharing pictures, videos projects, and computer projects from the year. This is a great chance for parents to get a glimpse of the journey that Room 308 has been on all year long. We will share video from the fashion show, pictures from the overnight, video of "the Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming", flash animations, the sensational hip-hop video recorded by our class, featuring MC Carey Mason, called 'Churchill Rocks-Our School', and a special live presentation of the class song we just finished writing today. It is going to be a special night, and one you might want to re-arrange your schedule for if you can. I have a little guy to get home to, so plan to be there no later than 8:45pm.
We will be cleaning things up in the coming days, and I ask the students not to throw any of their work out, but to take it home so parents can have a look at it so tell your children that you are looking forward to seeing it coming home.
Well, diapers to change, and report cards to write, so I should be going...
Hopefully we will see many of you next Thursday. It is going to be an emotional two weeks for the sixes who are moving on, but we have a lot going on in class, so hopefully everyone can keep it together. Let me know if you have any questions.
Regards, Ray
