Social Studies Project Outline

This week we outlined our first major assignment of the year. It is a poster project for Social Studies. Here is a quick outline of some of the main components we came up with:

These following tips were brainstormed by the class:

z Overall style should be consistent

z Use your own words

z Use a ruler when possible

z Draw your own maps, tables, etc. when possible

z Use titles and headings to make it easier to understand

z Think about the 6X6 rule and do not make it so detailed that no one will read it all

z Take your time and don’t be afraid of the eraser

z Answer all of the “W” questions (who, what, where, when, why, etc.)

z DO IT IN PENCIL FIRST and then add colour after it has been proof read

Canada and the World

Be sure to include:

a map with major cities

major landmarks and attractions

cultural information

climate information

What do they produce?

What do they trade?

What do we trade with them?

language

history

Grade 5

Segments of our Government

Be sure to include:

a brief description

related names and dates

pictures and drawings

subtitles

What role does it play in governing?

How does this affect Canadian lives?

important locations

Remember this is a poster that reflects the research you have done on the topic, not an essay or presentation. Your poster will be hung on the wall and students will be answering questions based on the information you include.
