Project X

At the risk of ruining the surprise, I want to let you all know that this week is Bastian's last one in our class. His final day will be this Thursday. We have a little going away project we are working on, and it would be great to have a volunteer or two tomorrow. If anyone is available please fire me off an email, or pop in and lend a hand. Anyone curious about "project x" should ask their child about the details. On another note, our class blog is currently blocked from the school server (don't ask me why!!) so it has been a challenge for me to get online and add to the blog recently. I apologise for this, and want to fill you in on what has happened since the break. Last week we jumped back into the swing of things with the start of a unit in math exploring measurement of perimeter, area, and volume (volume is yet to come). In language we are reading, writing and performing poetry as part of a poetry unit over the coming weeks, as well as drafting the first copies of various components of our biographies. Yesterday we all wrote personalized copyright pages, and today we worked on the rough drafts of our author's pages. We will be drafting the first copies of chapters in the coming days. This is just the first draft phase. Expectations for the good copies of the biographies will be coming home in the coming days. Last week we had the opportunity to participate in the Business Basics program. It was a whole day of activities brought to us by OCRI, and facilitated in our class by Josh, the CEO of a local Telecommunications company called GT. There was a lot packed into that day, and much of it was interactive, but much of it required strong listening skills, and not a lot of moving around. I have to say that the class did themselves proud, and demonstrated the most amazing active listening skills. It was a long day of activities, but they were able to give it all their best. Today we enjoyed a performance by Rag and Bones, a local music group who has visited the school in the past. It was a fun presentation for all. Tomorrow we are taking part in a variety of environment related activities to help celebrate David Suzuki's birthday. It should be an entertaining and educational event for all. Regards, Ray
