Eva Olsson Trip

We have been given the wonderful opportunity to take part in a talk by Eva Olsson at a nearby school. Eva is a reknown speaker, who visits classrooms and talks to children to share her life story. As we are in the midst of writing our biographies I think that this is a wonderful opportunity to hear about someone's life story, but Eva's story is even more incredible than most. The focus of her talk is on her life as a child during World War 2 in the concentration camps.

Eva is a Holocaust survivor, and her stories from that experience are captivating, a little shocking, and totally unforgettable. I have never known anyone who has heard her speak who has not been proufoundly moved by her message. The theme of her talks is focused on tolerance. She talks about the strength of the human spirit, she talks of tragedy, and triumph, and she leaves those who witness her story with an understanding of how we must learn from the mistakes of the past if we are to have a future worth living. We will be doing some work in class in the coming days to prepare the students for the topic that will be discussed. Around Remembrance Day we did some readings and watched some videos associated with this topic, so the class already has some idea of what will be discussed.

The permission forms that went home were 'orange' (goldenrod). We need them back by the end of the week in order to ensure that everyone will get a seat at this event. Please refer to the form for relevant details. I have extras in class for those who need them.

Regards, Ray
