We started out the day, even before our morning run, with some positive thoughts and a few quick words spoken to the looming clouds, and from there on things just kept on getting brighter and brighter. The class, as they have over the past week, continued to participate well in our morning run, and went inside for our morning Math period, but it was clear that they were getting excited for our first field trip as a class.
The walk to McKellar Park got us there under a mostly blue sky. The class had ten minutes to play in the field (imagine three simultaneous games of tag, and the football being thrown around in the field at the same time), and then we got together for a major game of Ultimate Frisbee on the football field. It was an intensly contested battle, with team Lima Bean exchanging the lead with team Green Bean on several occasions. In the end we settled for a draw as we ran out of time, and had to get moving along.
After lunch we easily made our way to Carlingwood Library, where we were met in the children's section by Margaret. The class was excellently behaved, and did Churchill proud all through the presentation, and during our exploration time in the circulation area.
Can you believe that every one of our students has a library card? Very impressive!
A short (40 min) walk back got us to Churchill just before the end of day, with some sun on our faces, and happy, if tired smiles all around. Extra big thanks go to Rebecca (Liam's mom), Allison (Jasper's mom), Maryam (Ayah's mom) and Matt (one of our E.A.s) for coming along with us and making the trip possible. It was a great first outing as a group, and has us all excited about the upcoming Parliament Hill trip. We still need volunteers for that trip, as we can not go without five volunteers for the bus ride downtown.
Well done Room 308!
