Marvellous Mandalas
Last Wednesday was a real Art-venture in room 308. We jumped into the exploration of circles, and all things round, during math class, where we used measurement and learned some compass techniques to create mandalas. With the help, and some resources from Donna Weldon, we then explored the principles of line, shape, and colour, and the geometric idea of symmetry, to add watercolours to our pieces. They are on display on the third floor right now. Everyone was incredibly successful, creating beautiful pieces of art. The great thing about this activity, as a student pointed out in class, is that circles have no corners, so no one gets left out. Come on in and check out this, and other artwork on display now on the third floor by room 308.We also had a guest visitor from the National Gallery who brought in art for us to explore with her. Bonnie is a former Churchill teacher, and was thrilled to be back in the class, and to see what a remarkable group we have.Later on we also did some holiday decorating, with the handiwork posted on our door. We now have a class set of 'gifts' wrapped and covering our door. It received quite a few compliments already. Thanks to all who sent in wrapping paper and ribbons. We are looking for small (not tiny, but more like the jam sized) mason jars. We need one per student for a project we have coming up. If anyone has access to some, we would appreciate the donation. Check out some of these photos from the works in progress...
