The Final Stretch!

Well, here it is...one week left.  There has been a lot going on over the past couple of weeks.  Thanks to everyone for reading the emails I have been sending, and staying on top of the various letters and permission forms being sent home.  I think it says a lot about how much more responsible the students of room 308 are now than in the fall, just the fact that they are able to take home a form one day, and almost every single form gets handed in the following day.  That is a remarkable improvement from where many of the students were in September, and one to be celebrated as many of them step up to the next grade as either the responsibilities as leaders in the school, or as members of a middle school.  In the past week our class has been on three field trips, organized a chalk festival, had two special presentations on Roman history (thank you Craig Shackleton), played O Canada on Ukelele's over the PA to start the day, and have prepared like mad for our big 'recycled fashion show'.  It has been hectic, and tiring, but all worthwhile.
Some quick notes on what to expect in the next week.
Friday - at the second nutrition break we will be presenting our recycled fashion show outside on the deck.  It will only be a five to ten minute event, starting at about 1:25pm
Monday -8:15 am - As mentioned in previous newsletters, Grade 6 honouring ceremony will take place in our gymnasium.  All parents are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.  Students will each have some time to say a few words of parting on stage.  Bring a camera, and a tissue!
-11:30 -Pizza in the Park - to celebrate their time here, grade 6's (and our grade 5's) will be walking to Dovercourt for lunch outside, including pizza if they ordered it, and snacks which are being donated by various families from room 308 and 310.  This will be followed by games and activities in the field, weather permitting.  Backup plans involve activities in the afternoon back at Churchill.
Tuesday -business as usual in the daytime, with science activities, and preparations for Tuesday Night in Room 308
-Tuesday Night in Room 308 - 6:30 - 8:00 pm - Open house for the first portion of the event, followed by the screening of some videos and pictures showing the adventure we have had over the course of the year.  Portfolios will be on display outside the classroom prior to the screening, for families to look through, and the computer lab will be opened for viewing of student computer based works.  For those who came last year, hope for a clear night, but know I have flashlights in case of a power outage :)
Wednesday - Class yearbook building.  desks cleaned out.  reports go home
Thursday - final day of classes.  Afternoon yearbook signing celebration.

Certainly there will be more that comes up.  Email me if you have any questions.
Just a reminder to all that we have a lot packed in for the last week, and lates, or missing days, can be really disruptful to what is happening in the school, and will likely result in your child missing some really wonderful moments as we wind things up.  That being said, a lot is happening at this time of year for families, so please let me know if there is going to be an absence for your child so we can try to plan around it.
Regards, Ray
