Dig It Play Reviews

5/6 Play Review
by Tomas Brown Burke

Where were you on march 10th 2009? because if you were not at Churchill Alternative school, you missed a great show!75 grade 5s and 6s performed the play Dig It,a travel through time that takes you back to China, Greece,Egypt, Mesopotamia and Rome. These countries and empires tell a tale about how life was like so long ago.

Travellers Taki and Tut meet Lucy the skeleton who introduces them to some of her friends from way back in time. She shows them people from China, Greece, Egypt, Mesopotamia and Rome and shows them how their life was like.

Alex Brouse played a great role in China playing Confucius saying some funny and hard scenes. In my opinion the play was a hit with some songs, good scenes and great roles. What an amazing play!
4/5 stars.

On March tenth, grade 5/6 classes of Churchill school put on a play called Dig It. This amazing play is both educational and fun!
Dig It is about two archaeologists ( Tut and Taki ) who find a skeleton named Lucy. Lucy can fly though time!! talk about cool!!!! So she takes the two though time. First too Mesopotamia, then Egypt, next China , up comes Greece, last but not lest Rome. The song “ toga party” ( Rome) really got me moving.
All in all I give this play four out of three!!!!

Have you ever lived Ancient Greece, or Egypt, Mesopotamia, Rome or even Ancient China? No need. On Tuesday March 10 or Wednesday March 11 you could of experienced going back in time to those exact places!

Lets start off with Ancient Mesopotamia and their great king Gilgamesh. Emily Selkrik from Cheryl's class played the part of Gilgamesh. The way she projected and articulated her words made it more realistic and made me want to take the time to watch it and really understand it.

Playing Taki was Nolan Galbraith (night show), and Emma Watts (day show) from Ray's class. They did terrific! With all the emotion. Nolan and Emma weren't playing the charactors in the play they were the charactors in the play which made it a lot more enjoyable. I can say the same for Isabel Estabrook, and Bronte McGills who played Tut, and Loghan Eskritt and Augusta Monet who played Lucy the talking skeleton.

It sure was a toga party with the rome scene dance and song “Toga Party.” Cheryl's class brightened up the stage and the audience with their toga party. Singing very loudly and cheerfully. What an amazing song and dance espaically having Cheryl's class performe it. Bravo!

Having a short period of time all grade 5/6 students did a great job of putting together the costumes and senery. Very clever Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome took old sheets and slipped a knot over one or each shoulder. Senery very simple yet made it seem like you were right there in Ancient Mesopotamia or Ancient China. With little touches such as a donkey here or a oblisk there made a huge difference.

Here's to the future and here's to the past for kids from Ray's class, Cheryl's class, and Maggie's class for singing Here's to the Future. It was beautiful. It set tears to parents eyes. So soft and lovely, it was great to see the adults reaction.

After watching this performance I would rate it 4 skeletons out of 5. it was wonderful, i would watch it again. Students from Rays Kalynuk's class (including Ray) rated it to there liking, the average rating was 4.5 skeletons out of 5.

-Play review-
On Tuesday March 10 at 7:00p.m. in Churchill School a play took place. The play took place in ancient Egypt, Greece, China, Rome, Mesopotamia, and Ethiopia. Each scene had its own little problem.

I found that all the actors did a very good job at remembering their lines especially Tacky, Tut, and Lucy did a very good job at remembering their lines. I think that ray's class could have use some more time to get ready for the play.

My favorite part was Khnum, because I found he did a very good job at projecting his voice. I also liked his costume because he stood out from everyone else.

Overall i think the play was an okay play. The play is good for a school play I give the play 3 out of 5 stars but if people give it 4, 3 people give it 5, and 5 people give it 3

Rating: 4/5

You should think over what you were doing on Tuesday March 10th. The audience says it was the best Churchill plays ever on! They would watch it over and over again. Everyone liked the Egyptian part the most.

It stated in Ethiopia. There were only three speaking roles in that part. But from those three was some very good acting. Then they had the song so long ago. That was also good. In Asia there where more speaking roles. The song was great I would say it was the best. I thought the gong was cool.

Rome had a good start to it. The fight between Romulus and Remus grabbed your attention very well. The only thing was when Remus came back on after he died. It was random. Mesopotamia went well. I think the audience liked king Inkido and her servant. They really got the crowd going.

Egypt had a good build to it. The pyramid was great. It showed what real Egyptian pyramids where like In the dance the audience liked the block passing. Last but not least Greece. The gods ruled the stage. Everyone loved them. It was almost like you were there. In the end I give this play 4/5 faces.

On March 10th and 11th I had the privilege to go and see the grade 5/6 class's at Churchill's play dig-it.

The fabulous songs were 'So long ago”
“2 rivers” “In My Tomb” “Empires of the East” “Greece is the word” “toga party” “ so long ago reprise” “and heres to the future.

The main characters are Tacky, Tut, and Lucy and I must say they where amazing, along with all the others.

My favourite scene was Egypt and empires of the east, all though those where my favourite I have to say they where all very well choreographed and well prepared.

The scene's are in order Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, China,
Greece, and Rome.

I would most definitely recommend this play to all those rambunctious
kid's they wont be able to stop laughing.

Out of 5 stars I would give it 4 and a ½

bye Chelsea MacDonald.

On March 10 2009, Maggie, Cheryl, and Rays classes preformed a grade 5/6 plat called Dig It. The play was about ancient civilizations. Dig It starts in Ethiopia, 1973 where Tut and Taki take an adventure through time to: Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The classes did the play to learn about ancient civilizations and to have fun.

The person I really noticed in Dig It was Ehren when he played Khnum. Ehren had a great attitude and was the perfect person for the roll. My favourite part of Ehren as Khnum was when he was telling the prophecy to king Zozer (Carry). When Khnum started to tell Zozer the prophecy, he seemed lost, and Ehren did that part very well.

Over all, I would give this play a four and a half star

On March 10th, 2009, the first major entertainment event of the year at Churchill Alternative School kicked off. The plotline of the play followed two explorers, Tacky and Tut, (not to be confused with King Tut) who travel back in time with a skeletal companion as their guide. Along the way, the two explorers learn all about ancient times.

The audience received an impeccable performance by Isabel, Nolan, Bronte, Augusta, Logan, and Emma. You could hear their voices perfectly, and it seemed as if they were actually the people they portrayed, not just actors. It wasn’t just them though, all of the actors acted extremely well.

The songs and dances had an ok grade in the play. While some songs like “Greece is the word” packed an amazing zing, other songs that had almost no movements and used flat tones brought the rating down. All in all though, the audience seemed to like the songs.

The clothes and costumes in the play showed a spectacular effort, especially in the Egyptian and Chinese scenes. The costumes there were especially extravagant. Conor Macleod, Who played a builder, said that the costumes in the play were better than any he was in before. Yes, they were that good. However, even though the costumes were good, the same degree of effort lacked in the backdrops of the play.

All in all, the play was above the Churchill play average, and I think that even those kids who grudgingly came along enjoyed it in the end.

Anybody who was in the Churchill Gym at 7:00 pm. on Tuesday, March 10, was probably bouncing in their seats to the groovy beats of the songs, “So Long Ago”, “The Land Between Two Rivers”, “In My Tomb,” “Empires of the East”, “Greece is the Word”, “Toga Party,” and “Here's to the Future” put on by the 75 grade 5/6 students.

It all started in Ethiopia when archaeologists Taki (Nolan Galbraith and Emma Watts) and
Tut (Bronte McGills and Isabel Estabrook) met a talking skeleton named Lucy (Logan Eskritt and Augusta Monet), and Lucy showed them the secrets of Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. The archaeologists went home with brains that could hold no more.

The costumes and sets were very appropriate for the stories of long ago. Slave clothes for for Mesopotamia, khaki clothes for Egypt, for Ancient China there were robes and for Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome there were chetons and togas. The sets reflected the different time periods and places. Of course, there were rivers for Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and suitable sceneries for all the others. The props had a huge effect on the way the performance was put on-and definitely for the better. It was amazing how Ray Kalynuk's class was able to work building a pyramid into the song “In My Tomb”. And how Cheryl Ashfield's class was digging in the desert-with wood floor and no shovels!
Almost all of the actors in Ray Kalynuk's class said that the play was “good”-only a few said it was okay, and no one said it was bad. If I had the chance, I'm sure most of the audience would say the same if I could interview them. Reviewed by Julia A. McGee

Where were you on Tuesday night at 7:oo? Well I was lucky enough to be at Churchill watching the grade 5/6 play! Emma and Nolan were Tacky (one of the main characters) Isabel and Bronte were Tut and Loghan and Augusta were Lucy. Each class presented three countries. Ray's class did ancient Egypt and ancient Greece. Cheryl’s class did Mesopotamia and Rome. Maggie’s class did China and Ethiopia. We also got to do two songs each, they were; in my tomb, Greece is the word, so long ago, toga party, between two rivers , and empires of the east. They were all great songs but my favourites were in my tomb and between two rivers. Im sad it is all over, but it was fun practising and getting ready for the play. Katie T.
