We are keeping busy in room 308. Today we had a visit from two time Olympic gold medal winning Canadian Carolyn Waldo who spoke about her experiences in sport and at the Olympics. The 5/6's were a great audience, full of fantastic questions.
We are in the midst of planning the books we are publishing over the next
two weeks. Everyone is researching a hero/celebrity/sports figure/family member/etc. who they will write a biography of. They all have research graphic organizers to help gather the information they will use to write their biographies. They have full choice for who they write on, as long as they are able to find enough information to complete the project. We will be storyboarding all of the pages of our books over the next two days, and using a checklist to plan the writing of the book next week.
The mural our class is painting is getting a lot of attention at school lately. I recommend stopping
in to check it out if you have time. We still are
in great need of volunteers to oversee the painting of the mural as we can only have one or two students working on it at a time. If you have any time to spare in the day we can use you, so please let me know. Hopfully we can get a lot of paint up in the next two days, and have it finished by early next week. Check out the photos attached. We are creating something that will be left behind at Churcill long after the students move on.
This project was inspired by some of the individual art we have done lately using grids to enlarge images. Each student made a 2cm square of the larger picture, and enlarged it to a 15 x 15cm square which they then group edited to match up with the other
pieces of the larger puzzle. Once edited they used carbon paper to transfer the image onto the wall. That is where we are now, trying to add colour to the image that is now on the wall.
Come on in if you can help out with this amazing project. Regards, Ray
