We have two short weeks coming up, but they will be very busy, and there are three homework assignments on the horizon, so this one was started the past week with all students re-writing jingle bells in class with a partner, and working to independently re-write a popular song for homwork this weekend. They all went home with the assignment on Friday (I saw it in every hand at day's end), but just in case, here is what it looked like.
Name: Song
Re-Write
Try to re write
this well known chorus from a song.
Start by
choosing something to chant in the repeating lines, and then build with simple
lines talking about the topic.

Choose any song of your own and get a copy of
the original lyrics.
Use the graphic organizer below to match up the
original lines with the lines that you re-write.
Try to pick a theme for your song first.
Starting by re-writing the chorus is usually the
easiest, and then work on making the verses to match the theme.
Your re-write is due at the beginning of next
week in class. If you can, you might
bring a copy of the original recording to play for the class when we share.
